One of the great appeals of She & Him, if you ask me, is the music's simplicity. Zooey Deschanel's voice is clear and uncomplicated, which makes it easy on the ears. And as Chris Kornelis pointed out after watching the band perform at Sasquatch!, there's little room for M. Ward's Chuck Berry-styled picking in She & Him's songs; Ward keeps his guitar licks clean, steady, and--you guessed it--simple.
All this simplicity means that watching an acoustic video of She & Him covering the 1940s classic "Fools Rush In" can get sort of boring. After a minute or so, I started paying closer attention to the musicians themselves: Ward is wearing a totally unnecessary pair of sunglasses (was it really bright in the Levi's-owned studio?) and Deschanel's red boots are pretty fantastic. But the most eye-catching accessory she's wearing is a wedding ring. She keeps her hands folded in her lap for most of the song, but right around 1:50 of the video, Deschanel unclasps her hands long enough for a silver wedding band to become apparent.
But, you know, if you don't care that she's making a rare public showing of her quiet marriage to Ben Gibbard, at least listen to the video. Seriously. It's a pretty song, perfect for She & Him's lovey-dovey style.
