Here's what Unnatural Helpers' Dean Whitmore--featured in the pages of SW this week--said when I brought up notion that his songs seemed, um, a little on the short side:

I don't think about the songs being short. Sometimes they do start out longer and they just get trimmed down to what I feel is the necessary heart of the matter. It seems kind of self-indulgent or whatever to keep going over the same parts. If I'm just, like, regurgitating the same shit again just to make it longer, I don't really see the point in it, and it's just not fun. I'd rather get on to the next thing, you know?

Unnatural Helpers' Hardly Art album, Cracked Love & Other Drugs, is in stores now. The band plays The Funhouse Friday night.
