Tonight: Nonagenarian Blues Pianist Pinetop Perkins at Jazz Alley

Pinetop Perkins, with Willie Big Eyes Smith. Jazz Alley, 2033 Sixth Ave., 441-9729. 7:30 p.m. $26.50. At 96 years old, blues pianist Pinetop Perkins is one of the last original Delta bluesmen still living, and he still gigs regularly around the country. Perkins has performed and recorded with almost every important blues performer in the history of the genre. He's most well known for his role as a longtime member of the Muddy Waters Band, but because he spent the bulk of his career as a supporting musician for other artists' tours and records, it wasn't until 1988 that Perkins recorded an album of his own...and liked it so much, he recorded a dozen more. If there was ever proof that age really is just a number, Perkins is it. SARA BRICKNER
