Everybody knows ticket prices have gone through the roof over the last decade. Blame whomever you want, but it is what it is. But over the last couple years, it's been interesting to see the way promoters--most notably LiveNation in this area--drop the price of tickets and generally ease the pain at the ticket booth when shows aren't selling too great. We've seen everything from half-price ticket Tuesdays to $10 seats on the lawn. Today comes word of the seasons' first.
Ticket to Top Petty & the Heartbreakers' stand at The Gorge, June 11 and 12, will be made available free of ticket fees from 11:30 p.m., Saturday, through 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, via LiveNation.com, and will save ticket buyers about $13 a ticket. The sale coincides with the band's performance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, where they'll pimp their forthcoming record, Mojo.
Tickets aren't cheap, but there aren't unreasonable, either. Seats start at $56, and climb up to $131. The best deal is the four-pack of lawn seats, which can be had for $29 a piece when purchasing blocks of four. Buy your tix during the sale, and suddenly you're paying less to see Petty than you have in years.
Surely this is just the first of many deals to come at the hand of LiveNation. That is, unless I'm seriously wrong about the demand for Limb Bizkit/Ice Cube tickets (admit it, seeing Ice Cube makes that bill worth a second look!).
