Los Campesinos! perform at the Showbox at the Market on May 4.
Though the Welsh band's tour was delayed by the explosion of a certain Icelandic volcano, lead singer Gareth's quote on the LC! blog was thus:
One thing I am certain of, when we make it to you, these are going to be the most violently euphoric shows we have ever played.
And goddamn was he telling the truth. The energy and utter happiness trapped inside that place, away from the dreary Seattle rain, was unmatchable (as evidenced by the onstage contortions, the multi-instrumentalism and the encore performed from inside the writhing, bouncing crowd). Live, just as in their recorded material, Los Campesinos! proves to be one of the most delightfully complex bands in today's spotlight--rhythmically, lyrically, melodically and emotionally. Ultimately, this was a performance I was genuinely glad I could experience. And dance to.
More photos (and a snapshot of the setlist I'll let you decipher--think of it as a riddle to be solved in the comments) after the jump.
