Who knew someone was making a biopic on John Lennon? Well, they are, and it's going to be out this October and is called Nowhere Boy. The flick stars the 19-year-old British actor Aaron Johnson as Lennon - Johnson's previous credits include Kick-Ass and Shanghai Knights with Jackie Chain and Owen Wilson. But - get this - Johnson's dating Nowhere Boy's director, the 43-year-old Sam Taylor Wood, who's 24 years his elder and is currently knocked up with his child. British people scandals!
Anyway, the movie. It's about the early schoolboy days of Lennon, kind of like how Becoming Jane is about Jane Austen's early years. According to IMDB, the film's tagline is:
As a boy, all John Lennon needed was love.
Starring are Kristin Scott Stewart as Lennon's Aunt Mimi, who raised him, the aforementioned Johnson, and even more puzzlingly, a not-that-cute boy as the young Paul McCartney - puzzling in that everyone knows that the young Paul McCartney was the cutest boy of all time. (No, seriously. He's played by that creepy little gremlin kid from Love Actually. Casting?).
I'll be curious to see how this movie does in the box office. It's getting decent reviews. Everyone likes a good coming-of-age tale. And if you like Johnson, you can catch him in his next performance, Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall. (Really).
