BOAT Confirmed for Bumbershoot, And a Contest to Design the Permanent Festival Logo

We won't know the complete Bumbershoot (Sept. 4 to 6) lineup until Tuesday, June 1, but we don know for sure that Seattle pop rockers BOAT will be on the bill. They're playing at the Hard Rock Cafe on Wednesday, June 2 at a free kickoff party (21+) for Bumbershoot's summer of events titled, "40 Ways to Celebrate Bumbershoot's 40th Festival."

Some of the events/ideas (full press release after the jump) are previously announced shows (Bumbershoot Presents Strange Powers at SIFF, etc.), but there are a few eye-catching happenings on the list. "Umbrella for the Arts: 40 Years of Bumbershoot Artwork" will featuring posters and festival art from the last four decades (July 1 through Sept. 7 in the Seattle City Hall Lobby and Anne Focke Galleries: 600 Fourth Avenue), and one Bumbershoot is accepting designs from artists through June 30 for a permanent logo for the festival. 4O WAYS TO CELEBRATE BUMBERSHOOT'S 40TH YEAR

A summer-long series of events, programs, and contests, many in partnership with local organizations, created to encourage the community to celebrate together 40 years of music, arts, culture and Bumbershoot.

Seattle, WA - Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music & Arts Festival, taking place this year September 4-6 at Seattle Center, is celebrating the 40th annual festival. As part of the 40th festivities, Bumbershoot invites the community to participate in 40 Ways to Celebrate Bumbershoot's 40th Festival, a summer-long series of events, programs, and contests highlighting Seattle's rich history of creating and supporting music, art, culture and community. These events are meant to inspire Seattle to commemorate Bumbershoot's longevity and to provide opportunities for the Festival and fans to give back to the community that has supported it for four decades.

In true rock n' roll style, Bumbershoot will kick off the 40 Ways series on Wednesday, June 2nd, 8pm at the new Hard Rock Café in downtown Seattle. The 40 Ways kick-off event is free and open to the public (21+) and will feature a musical performance by Bumbershoot 2010 artist BOAT, drink specials, door prizes and fun giveaways. Emceed by the Festival's Programming Director, Chris Porter, the evening will also feature music videos showcasing some of the artists performing at this year's 40th annual Bumbershoot Festival.

Design the Bumbershoot Logo

For 40 years, Bumbershoot has annually reinvented the event logo, but is now seeking a permanent logo to brand the Festival year to year. This design contest is the chance for fans to get creative with the challenge of creating a logo that conveys Bumbershoot's spirit at a glance and will endure years to come. The winner will receive Gold Passes to this year's Festival, as well as the honor of literally leaving his or her mark on an iconic Seattle event.

Bumbershoot Presents Strange Powers at SIFF

Bumbershoot is proud to present two screenings of Strange Powers as part of this year's Seattle International Film Festival. Strange Powers traces the work of past Bumbershoot artist, Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields) highlighting a 20-year relationship that has led to one of the greatest bodies of work in the American Songbook.

Seattle Weekly Happy Hour for Hope

Seattle Weekly's Happy Hour for Hope, in partnership with 107.7 The End, is a monthly networking event to help raise money and awareness for non-profits. The June event will benefit Bumbershoot's Send-a-Kid program, established by One Reel in 2004 and founded on the core belief that all kids benefit from experiencing art and music. This program helps send under-served youth from our community with an accompanying adult from one of our partner organizations, Art with Heart and Arts Corps.

Umbrella for the Arts: 40 Years of Bumbershoot Artwork

Visit this retrospective exhibition featuring posters and original artworks created over the past 40 years specifically for Bumbershoot. Claes Oldenburg, Jacob Lawrence, Joe Max Emminger, Barbara Earl Thomas, Faye Jones, Ginny Ruffner, Cheryl dos Remédios and Dawn Cerny are just a few of the dozens of artists whose work has defined Bumbershoot's look.

Silkscreen a Bumbershoot Shirt at The Vera Project

Come see the latest gallery show at The Vera Project, Grip It and Rip It: A Skate Art Show, and silkscreen a Bumbershoot T-Shirt while you're there. Laff Hole Celebrates 40 Years of Bumbershoot

Bumbershoot's Northwest Comedy partner, Peoples Republic of Komedy, delivers this edition of Laff Hole wrapped up in a Bumbershoot bow to celebrate the Festival's 40 years. Prizes, contests, and laughs make for a guaranteed good time at this event.

Bumbershoot Edition of City Arts Magazine's "The Song Show"

Bumbershoot Themed The Round

Songwriters performing their (and each other's) songs, a spoken word poet (or two) with at least one visual artist added to the mix, and you've got the eclectic evening of entertainment known as The Round. This Bumbershoot themed "Round" will feature a mix of Bumbershoot 2010 artists and will give an inside look at how talented Bumbershoot artists collaborate, improvise and create.
