Darbury and I went to a dinner in Sacramento for the Croatian Scholarship Fund. This is just another endeavor of the Croatian diaspora. This community is located in Northern California and the peeps in Sacramento have built a fine club house. The food was great as was the whole shindig. I was one of the guests of honor and the entertainers, Mate & Petra, busted out an instrumental version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the digital keyboard! (The keyboardist also did Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" a little later.) There was a nice folk dancing presentation with wonderful traditional costumes. And of course, as these things go there were many speeches by board members, functionaries and the presentation of plaques. I got to chat with folks like the vice-ambassador of Croatia to the United States, a man who builds robots that clear land-mines and others connected to the land also known as Hrvatska. Big shout out to Gary Allen, who was a great host.
