KEXP recently posted the videos from Grand Hallway's in-studio performance earlier this month, and these clips have the best sound I've heard on any of the radio station's live shows. Without watching the video, it's hard to tell these songs were recorded live. Maybe it's because the band crammed 11 musicians (by my count) into the studio, or that six of those musicians were from the Seattle Rock Orchestra, or that Tomo Nakayama and Shenandoah Davis are incredibly skilled pop songwriters. Whatever the reason, these live songs are solid, layered earfuls. At the end of this video for "Father's Clothes," KEXP DJ Kevin Cole describes Grand Hallway as putting on "a special acoustic performance this afternoon, and usually that means stripped down, but in this case, it's more stripped up." His assessment is spot on.
