It's much too easy to crack jokes about Zooey Deschanel's marriage to Ben Gibbard, now that the indie "it" girl has been attached to an HBO pilot about groupies. The new series will be based on Pamela Des Barres' memoir, I'm With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie, which details Des Barre's affairs with Mick Jagger and Jimmy Page.
It's a coincidental role for Deschanel (and not just because she's got a thing for musicians). She had a tiny role in Almost Famous, the quasi-autobiographical tale of Seattle-loving Cameron Crowe's big break at Rolling Stone. (You will recall that she left home to become a stewardess, leaving the Cameron Crowe character with his nutty mom.) Even more coincidentally, the character of Penny Lane in Almost Famous is rumored to be partially inspired by Des Barres. (And a woman in Portland).
Lest we forget that Deschanel is a musician in her own right, video of She & Him's "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" after the jump.
