Unnoticed by some, Northwest Film Forum has launched a weekend series of late-night concert movies (details), which continues at 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 with Elect the Dead Symphony. This concert doc captures Serj Tankian at a large-scale performance in Auckland, New Zealand. Tickets are $6 for NWFF members, and $9 for the rest of us.
A more recognized band arrives the following weekend in White Stripes: Under Great Northern Lights (9 p.m. Fri. and Sat., Feb. 26-27). That film follows the bichromatic duo on a 2007 tour of small Canadian venues. One, apparently, is a bowling alley where Jack and Meg actually roll a few frames during the show!
Also of note, running March 12-13 at 9 p.m., is Leonard Cohen Live at the Isle of Wight, 1970, which captures the young-old master delivering numbers including "Seems So Long Ago, Nancy." Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins, and Joan Baez also make appearances.
