Bookoo credit to Rhymesayers for tapping Brent Rollins to design the high-end packaging for Freeway's third solo album, The Stimulus Package, which is due out Feb. 16 and produced entirely by our own Jake One. Check the video below in order to see all the goodies awaiting those who grab a physical copy.
As a general proposition, this idea/investment reinforces the notion of the album as cultural artifact--a tangible touchstone that sits on shelves and invites participation. Handle with care: As we all know, in the age of the customizable iPod playlist, such customized packaging is increasingly rare. Indeed, the fact that the intro to The Stimulus Package is less an opening salvo and more of an actual song--featuring Beanie Sigel--further directs fans to not only pick up the whole honkin' thing, but also to listen to it from beginning to end. On every level, this is hip-hop you can touch and feel. It deserves more than a download.
