Eight days after the unfathomably devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Seattle music community continues to adapt events and produce shows to send aid to the suffering nation. Tonight, there are two events where supporting local music will also support organizations doing on-the-ground work in Port-au-Prince and throughout Haiti.
At Neumos, the culturally eclectic Kore Ionz, who spin freewheeling reggae jams with soaring vocals and true-school riddims, anchor a night also featuring Carnival-inspired, Seattle-based Brazillian/samba dance group Tudo Beleza. Supporting them are steel-drum wranglers Bakra Bata and the funked-out Big World Breaks , who will be bringing a slew of polished local MCs (Gabriel Teodros, Yirim Seck, and B-Flat among others) to the stage. The event's proceeds will go to two organizations, Hearts With Haiti and Art Matenwa, who support Haitian orphanages and female artisans, respectively. Also tonight is the fundraiser sponsored by Re-Bar that goes to support the International Red Cross and Wyclef's Yele Haiti. In addition to the admission price, 100% of all PBR sales will also be donated. (Pretty sweet, Seattle.) DJs Riz, Recess, Queen Lucky, and Barberella are some of the many DJs that donated sets for the evening. More details on the event can be found here.
