The Feb. 24 gig won't be the Dutchess & the Duke's first trip to Bremerton. We took 'em over and had them share a few songs on the ferry once upon a time.
If ever there were a reason to hop the slow boat to Bremerton this is it: Cave Singers and Dutchess & the Duke are playing the High Fidelity Lounge, a cozy venue/bar in the city's Charleston district that's smaller than the Sunset, on Feb. 24. The bar serves good, strong drinks (Gentry used to pour you drinks at Liberty. Have him make you a gin gimlet), and if the Finn Riggins set I saw there last year was any indication, the bar's more than up for the occasion of two of Seattle's biggest up-and-coming bands making the trek over. Couple suggestions:
-- Get there early. The place is small, and I'd like to think this is going to be a beyond capacity situation.
-- Hit up La Poblanita for dinner. This little taqueria across the street serves dynamite tamales. I suggest the pork.
-- Drive onto the ferry, but drive home through Tacoma. The last boat back to Seattle is at 11:40 p.m. (sucks, doesn't it!), so you'll really want to drive, or crash with one of your Bremerton peeps.
