Laura Veirs, Blind Pilot, Mimicking Birds at Neumos, 8 p.m., $12 adv
Portland songwriter Laura Veirs recently released two tracks from her upcoming album, July Flame, for download: the title track and "I Can See Your Tracks." Veirs' voice has a unique character to it -- had Metric's Emily Haines gone down a different musical path and chosen strings over synths, she might sound a little like this. Veirs' is a rare talent; her melodies manage to capture the beauty of the natural world she describes in her lyrics with an eloquence that eclipses the words themselves. She performs with fellow Portlanders Blind Pilot, the bicycle-touring, folk-pop duo everyone's been talking about all year. I highly recommend getting there early enough to catch opener Mimicking Birds, whose whispered, tremulous folk stylings are the perfect preface before Veirs and Blind Pilot perform.
