While most people don't think of Seattle and associate it with funk and soul music the way they do with, say, grunge -- not even people who've lived here their whole lives -- Light in the Attic and DJ Supreme La Rock's free, downloadable mixare out to change that, and who knows? They just might succeed. The mix is comprised exclusively of recordings by Seattle funk and soul artists, and is a compliment to Light in the Attic's Wheedle's Groove Series. The first release in the series, Wheedle's Groove: Seattle's Finest in Funk & Soul, 1965-1975, is a selection of vintage funk and soul recordings out of Seattle, while Kearney Barton features recordings from those very same artists, thirty-some-odd years later. You can get all of that stuff on Light in the Attic's website, and will want to once you hear this. I promise.
