As I mentioned last week, Stop Biting at Lo-Fi on Eastlake is the place to be if you're trying to get some hip-hop in your veins on Tuesday night. And tonight, in addition to featuring DJs Ohmega Watts, Sapience, Hideki, Madmen, and Introcut, Stop Biting presents a live MPC set from Seattle OG Specs One (also known as SPECSWIZARD). While I don't purport to have a comprehensive knowledge of his prolific body of work, Specs is a living legend and the definitive Renaissance man of Seattle underground hip-hop. He is a deft producer and MC who has released albums since the late 1980's, his most recent being 2009's The Building Project, a collaboration with four other Seattle artists to address the violent tension between young people in the South End and Central District. Moreover, I am incredibly impressed by his pursuits as a visual artist and graphic novelist: click here to preview pages from his Mux Adapter released in late 2008, and here to previewAchiever Comics, that he released under the name M. Hall. His generic fluidity and mysterious aura should be quite enough to tempt you out to catch him playing a live set tonight on an MPC drum machine.
