Brothers of the Sonic Cloth and Mico de Noche split 10": I've been writing for months about how much I was looking forward to this release, and it showed up in my in-box at KEXP today. Delightfully, it's as heavy and sharp as I had hoped for. The vinyl comes with a download code so you can spin the black circle or get your bang on in a digital context (I didn't mean for that to sound as dirty as it did, I swear). You can preview the tracks over here and pick one up for yourself at the release party next Saturday, October 10, with Mico, BOTSC and Portland's Black Elk.

Public Enemy, "She Watch Channel Zero": Despite the unfortunate latter-day irony of having Flavor Flav chastise an unnamed female character for allowing her brain to rot while overdosing on spiritually deficient television programming, this song still kills. Can't beat that Slayer sample:

Ray Charles, "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town": It's a treat when pure childhood sentimentality holds up this nicely. This was my go-to after school song when I was around 5 (why this didn't alarm my mother, I'll never know). I played this the other night on KEXP and had to ride the levels hard, as the horn section practically jumps out and bites you:
