Sooner or later, we all knew some promoter would throw a costume party with a Where the Wild Things Are theme. After all, the forces of darkness are aligned against those of us praying for sanity: Halloween is almost here, the movie is garnering raves, and its director, Spike Jonze, is a hipster icon. One could only hope that the party wouldn't be an irony-free zone like, say, a Star Trek convention or Bill O'Reilly's brain.
Thankfully, the first such soiree I've seen--dubbed "Where the Wild Beats Are"--is being thrown by Seattle's Shameless collective, the same folks behind the "My Bloody Valentine" debauch, which puts a dirty finger in cupid's eye every year. As usual, they've organized a stone good line-up of DJs to perform tonight at Chop Suey, including Chicago-based breakcore specialist The Flashbulb and Berlin-based Kid 606, a jock known to crack speakers with his glitched-out, bass-head jams. Though costumes are encouraged, you don't have to dress up as a giant furry creature to attend. Doors at 9 p.m., and those wearing costumes get $3 off the $10 cover after 10 p.m. Full release after the jump.

The Flashbulb aka Benn Jordan is an idm musician operating under many pseudonyms. Since 1999 his most widely distributed and eclectic music has been released under the name of The Flashbulb, whose songs mostly fall under the idm/breakcore genre. Other names Benn operates under are Benn Jordan, Q-Bit, Flexe, Dr. Lefty, Acidwolf, Human Action Network, DJ ASCII, Lucid32, and rnd16.
As The Flashbulb, Jordan typically releases drill n bass music. His style differs strongly between albums, but they all have a cohesive bond tied around fast drum programming, acid-influenced melodies, and a wide array of live instrumentation from various instruments Jordan has acquired. He also often records his melodies through MIDI-synced guitars. His guitar style and skill has gained attention because he typically plays it strung backwards, and makes heavy use of fast sweeping and tapping. The last two Flashbulb albums have been featuring violinist Greg Hurte.

KID606 aka Miguel Depedro, born 1979 in Venezuela and raised in California, dropped out of school and life to make music and run around the world bringing his uniquely reckless fucked up and beautiful music to our fucked up and beautiful world (one dance party at a time). Insipired by the best of electronica, punk, jungle, hiphop, Bass, dancehall and techno, kid606 fuses it all together with a love of POP culture that andy warhol would approve of. Critically acclaimed releases (both legal and illegal) on ipecac, mille plateaux, fatcat, 555, his own tigerbeat6 label as well as remixes for artists as disparate as depeche mode, the locust, peaches, and super furry animals have painted a clear portrait of kid606 as an inspired, angry and iconoclastic artist more concerned with emotional content than popularity and unwilling to be pigeonholed in any vacant scene or soulless musical genre. Open your ears and shout along, or close your eyes and dance - but always expect the unexpected.
