My unyielding affection for N.W.A. is well-documented on the pages of SW, and it's a rare night that I play a club set and don't drop "Dope Man" into the mix, so it's no surprise I was instantly transfixed when I came across VH1's Behind the Music special on Eazy-E, Dre, and Ice Cube this weekend (narrated by Chris Rock, no less). I really wish these guys had an opportunity to make more videos (particularly for SOC, far and away their best album), because things could have gotten a lot more interesting than they do here. Still, the low-budget qualities of watching them cruise their own streets has an undeniable efficacy all by itself that matches the minimalist production bones of the song itself. Video after the jump.
