I've Been Listening to The Decemberists, Goldfrapp, and Pearl Jam's Backspacer

I just picked up some new vinyl and found some surprises.

I know The Decemberists as masters of melody. You can always count on the band releasing well-recorded music offering diverse instrumentation. The Perfect Crime #2 EP is a step away from the whimsical songcraft this crew is known for. We instead find some nice groove / electronica. Electronica is contemporary music and The Decemberists are a contemporary band that's rooted in traditional / folk music. This release is light and fun.

We can keep the heavy bass going with Goldfrapp's EP Strict Machine. I really enjoy their album Seventh Tree - beautiful with songs with lush sounds. So I put down the $6.40 and bought Strict Machine. Victor Calderone helps out with the first re-mix. I became a fan through his work with Madonna and Ray Of Light.

Finally, when you need to step away from the big bass, put on the new Pearl Jam record Backspacer. The band that keeps going - does just that and with a kick in their step. "Just Breathe" is sweet. It took me to Eddie's solo work for the film soundtrack Into The Wild. "Amongst The Waves" finds these fellows doing what they do - it's Pearl Jam and it's straight Rock & Roll! Nice vinyl package with art by syndicated political cartoonist Tom Tomorrow.
