There is a big-ass hip hop show tonight at Showbox at the Market with the Clipse, Slick Rick, They Live!, GMK, Thee Satisfaction, Them Team, DJ Sean Cee, Dave Jeff, Jaunted and Dkae. Holy shit. That is a lot of good hip hop in one place. It's $25, but I don't think that's overly steep, considering how many awesome MCs will be there. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show's all ages. I was under the wrong impression earlier -- the Sneaker Pimps aren't actually performing tonight. This is just a sneaker show. Still, the Clipse and Slick Rick will be worth seeing.
Supersuckers, aka "The Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band in the World"
In rock and roll, the Supersuckers play Neumos at 8 p.m. tonight for $13.
Proclaiming yourself to be the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world isn't quite as bad as elevating yourself above Jesus Christ, but man, that's still a lot of self-generated hype to live up to. It's a title that the Supersuckers have been working towards for twenty years now, after writing themselves into the rock and roll history books with songs all about the vices commonly associated with rock-n-roll - sex, drugs, alcohol and the devil. The 'Suckers have spent the greater part of this year touring Europe and South America in support of last year's well-received Get It Together, an LP that, as always, fuses Eddie Spaghetti's brawny and confident vocals, Scottzilla Churilla's relentless drumming and Rontrose Heathman and Dan "Thunder" Bolton's sweet, sweet guitar solos and duels. And while the songs on this album are somehow more earnest and grounded than their previous party music, it's still got that same grandstanding that has become the band's trademark (one of the tracks is called "I'm a Fucking Genius"). All the Supersuckers ever wanted was to rock your pants off. Just let 'em. E. THOMPSON
