I've Been Listening to... David Guetta, Starfucker, & Kristinia Debarge"/>
David Guetta; One Love: I've been obsessed with Guetta since getting a hold of his 2003 club mix disk Fuck Me I'm Famous! The Parisian DJ combines French house and American hip-hop to make killer dance records. It's a no-brainer why his new album, One Love, has gotten ample airplay on dance radio stations and in clubs. On the lavish first single, "When Love Takes Over," Guetta layers surging beats and soaring female vocals over a rift from Coldplay's "Clocks." The results, on the respective track and on the rest of the album, are stunning.
Kristinia Debarge; Exposed: There's one reason and one reason only that this 18-year-old pop singer scored the coveted spot as the opening act for Britney Spears' tour: She's the daughter '80s R&B star James DeBarge. (It's all about who you know, baby.) Regardless, I admit her first single "Goodbye" sampling Steam's "Na Na Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" was pretty damn catchy. I can't get enough of the rest of her debut album either. It's pure bubblegum pop made by a wannabe Rihanna. It's nothing earth shattering or capable of catapulting the girl to stardom, but it sure is easy to chew on.
