I listened to a good amount of Al Green over this past weekend. Why... cause why not? The man is a genius when it comes to making love songs and far ahead of anyone out currently in the pillow-talk R&B genre. I was trying to remember why they call him Al "Grits" Green and conjure up the story of how some woman burned him in the bathtub with a pot of hot grits. Thankfully, I just found what looks like his own version of the story and linked to it above. It's worth a quick read. But with a voice like this, I'm sure women fell for him all the time back then, and still do. Lay it Down, his last album from 2008, opened a lot of people's eyes to the fact that Green still has some hits left in him.
Although Lay it Down deserves ample praise, I'll stick take some of these classic jams from the '70s like what's above. "For the Good Times" is one of my favorite songs so I can't help but share it this morning.
