Local pop luminaries Throw Me the Statue already released "Ancestors," one very, very catchy song from their very, very catchy upcoming album, Creaturesque (you can buy it August 4 or pre-order from Secretly Canadian.) The whole record is a bright, bouncy pop masterpiece that hasn't left my car stereo for weeks -- it's definitely one of the top ten best local releases to come out so far this year -- but you don't have to take my word for it. You can listen to "Hi-Fi Goon" right now, and if you haven't listened to "Ancestors" yet, definitely give that cut a listen, too. Those two tracks are just a taste of how excellent that record is. Most modern bands rely more on writing a few catchy singles, rather than a cohesive, filler-free album, but Creaturesque is an album you can listen to all the way through. And if you want a sneak preview of more songs from the record -- like my favorite track right now, "Dizzy from the Fall" -- on July 31 Throw Me the Statue is playing the Mural Amphitheater with Blitzen Trapper as part of KEXP's really amazing free concert series.
