Probably the biggest world music party happening this weekend is the Bollywood blowout event taking place at the Crocodile tonight. The last time I tried to go to this event when it was held at Nectar, there was a line snaked all the way down the side of the building and around the corner. DJ Anshul and crew were spinning some serious bhangra and bollywood jams that kept the place packed -- and despite the fact that I was on the guestlist, Nectar was at full capacity and there was no way for me to get in. So hopefully I can make it inside tonight as I've got a feeling that Aanshul and DJ Victor are going to be throwing down.
If that's not your style, Tanzanian rapper Ali Kiba is in town this evening and performing at Cafe Ibex. I don't really know his music at all so I can't vouch for it, but head to his MySpace to check out his tunes and decide if you want to go. DJ Dully will be spinning something called bongo flava, which is apparently Swahili rap from Tanzania. That actually sounds cool and if that description interests you, then screw the MySpace surfing and just head to Ibex. Surprises await you.
