Inaugural marathon Saturday, June 27, 2009
Grammy-winning and legendary guitarist Keb' Mo' will be headlining the celebration concert for Seattle's first annual Rock 'n' Roll marathon and half marathon this Saturday. Over 25,000 people are registered to run the route from Tukwila to Qwest Field in Seattle.

Participants will be running to the beat of 40 local bands playing everything from indie pop to blues to hip-hop to heart-pounding rock. The question is, will these band inspire the athletes to run faster or just farther away? You be the judge. Peppering the route every few miles the bands include, The Lonely Forrest (who will also be playing at Artopia the same day), Grynch (who has a new EP coming out July 12), The Tripwires, Shotty and SHIM, to name a few. At the finish line make sure to catch the School of Rock All-Stars and GruVBox. For a complete listing of bands and locations take a look at the official route list.

Registration for the event is now closed but tickets to see Keb' Mo' at Marymoor Park are available ahead of time for family and friends for $30. With 25,000 people running, you have to know someone right? If not they are still accepting volunteers to help out with the marathon.

Being philanthropic always has its rewards and volunteers will receive a free t-shirt (yipee!) and a free ticket to the Keb' Mo' concert. If running isn't your thing (let's face it, the thought of a marathon makes me shudder) or you didn't get a chance to register, check out the course map and cheer on the participants while catching your favorite local band and hopefully some rays.
