You heard right, folks: one of the best songwriters of our time, Dan Bejar, is playing the Crocodile. Bejar's command of language is unmatched by any contemporary musician today. His use of words is similar to Jeff Mangum's, or maybe Colin Meloy's (even if you hate the Decemberists like so many of my co-workers do, you must admit that the man knows how to write good narrative), or maybe Leonard Cohen. If you are a fan of any of the aforementioned artists, or literary songwriters in general, but are not familiar with Mr. Bejar, then I beseech you-- no, I command you-- to visit Merge Records' website and listen to the Destroyer songs they posted on there under "media." And while I think it's Dan Bejar's lyrical skill that's really astounding, the music is excellent, too-- whether Bejar plays with a full band or solo, as he will tomorrow. Shoot me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org with "Destroyer tickets" someplace in the subject heading by 5 p.m. tomorrow. Winner will be chosen at random and notified by 6 p.m., in plenty of time to get to the show at 8.
