Even though it's late in the day, it's never too late for an old school video to help sooth the eyes and eardrums. I just hung out with Mos Def over the weekend and watched him put on a slightly lackluster performance (starting out) that got better as time went on. An unnamed SW staff member even shared a "cigarette" with Mos backstage after his set.
Since driving out to Sasquatch reminded me of being on the road again and traveling, it feels right to bring back this oldie but goodie from Mos Def's early days when he used to work with DJ Honda. Check it out. And for those that are wondering, he did perform this song over the weekend. I was on stage singing it word for word right next to Marshall Verdoes, the 14-year-old drummer from Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band. I actually introduced Marshall to Mos Def by saying, "yo Mos, this is the new ?uestlove." That captured Mos' attention and I left the two of them alone to chat. That's one of many stories from this past weekend still rattling around my brain.
