Metal Church: The Anvil of Seattle?

So when you host a locally-focused radio show every week, you learn quickly what's almost universally popular among listeners (Soundgarden, Fleet Foxes), what's invariably divisive (Calvin Johnson's deep, distinct baritone, which Sleater-Kinney album is the best) and what are sure fire cuts to make the phones and emails light up with super-fans. The Melvins and the Wipers always seem to prompt lots of response, but over the last couple months, I've discovered that there are a helluva lot of Metal Church fans out there. Who knew that this band (with humble origins in Aberdeen, incidentally) had such a diehard following? Honestly, it's only their first album that I really dig, but I'm pretty flabbergasted by how many people out their still love these guys.
