Stones Throw Records Takes Over Chop Suey April 25

Fans of West Coast esoteric hip-hop are undeniably familiar with Stones Throw Records, the Los Angeles-based label that's home to artists like Peanut Butter Wolf and Madlib. Stones Throw is putting on a North American tour for some of their newer artists and they land at Chop Suey this Friday, April 25. In addition to Peanut Butter Wolf spinning records, which can sometimes be hit or miss in my opinion, they'll have James Pants, Dam-Funk, and Mayer Hawthorne DJing as well. I'm actually excited to see the last name on that list the most. He's a talented producer/DJ out of Ann Arbor, MI that I used to see spinning with crews like Athletic Mic League and Now On a couple of years ago when he was known as DJ Haircut. Now that his remix career has jumped off and he's changed his stage name, he's signed to Stones Throw and is getting a lot of love from industry tastemakers like Mark Ronson and Gilles Peterson.

After the jump, check out one of my favorite Mayer Hawthorne tracks. It's called, "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" and it really does come on a heart-shaped piece of vinyl if you're into collecting records.
