A few days ago, I was over at Bop Street records in Ballard--a rather cool place to go surface digging--when I came across a gem called Rap's Greatest Hits. The name is misleading by 2009 standards, but since it came out in 1986, I guess it was based off of who was moving major units during rap's kindergarten years. There's songs by Whodini ("Friends"), Timex Social Club ("Rumors"), Run D.M.C. ("King of Rock") and UTFO ("Roxanne Roxanne") on here...but the one that caught my ear the most was by the Fat Boys. Man, I loved these cats growing up. In retrospect, I realize they were probably over-eating just to stay employed--which is sad, but that mid '80s classic rap sound of there's was one of my favorites.
