In case you didn't see it, a short documentary aired Monday night about one of my favorite restaurant/music venues in Seattle. The place is called Hidmo, it's a cool Eritrean restaurant/community center where performances take place most weekend nights. Last month, local filmmaker Jill Irene Freidberg shot a short, 14-minute documentary called Hidmo Means Home on the importance that establishment has within the Central Disctrict.
Various local performers, from West African drumming troupes to hip-hop performers like Gabriel Teodros, 1st Quarter Storm, One Be Lo, THEESatisfaction, and Canary Sing, and are in the film and it gives a good, balanced perspective on the role Hidmo plays within it's community. I just found out the documentary airs again tonight on Channel 21 at 8pm, but you can also watch it right now via the web by clicking on this link.
