Legendary jazz saxophonist Brandford Marsalis and his world renowed quartet just announced they're playing four nights at Jazz Alley March 19-22. That's good news to me cause I've been listening to his newest album Metamorphosen quite a bit since an advance of it showed up in the mail recently and I'm looking forward to seeing this quartet live. Ever since I was a youth, I grew up watching the Branford Marsalis Quartet, either in Spike Lee films like Mo Better Blues and School Daze, or watching Marsalis himself make guest appearances on the Cosby Show. Rumor has it, one of the Cosby Show theme songs was done by BMQ so finally getting a chance to see them live is a treat.
Interestingly enough, the group is touring behind their upcoming release, which comes out March 17, and the gang is kicking off their 12-city tour here in Seattle. That says a lot about what they think of this market for jazz and I hope folks come out and support them. They'll be playing two shows a night all four nights and tickets are $30.50. For more info, head over to Jazz Alley's site. After the jump, check out one of my favorite Branford Marsalis tunes of all time, albeit with a little help from trumpet player Terence Blanchard.
