A little over a year ago, my brother Joe (that's him above, getting religion), formerly the keyboardist for Ghosts I've Met, moved to Brooklyn to cohabitate with the love of his life, redlocked violin prodigy Margaret White, a founding member of the Comas who also played in Ghosts I've Met and whose resume includes stints with Sparklehorse, Cat Power, and Belle & Sebastian. Together, they form the folkemo (I just coined a new genre!) duo Pillowfighter.
Margaret's actually from North Carolina, and this past summer 'Lil Scoop and I managed to catch two of their gigs down that way. The first was outdoors at a sandwich shop/bar across the street from the North Carolina St. campus in Raleigh. There were as many noisy dogs in attendance as people, and there were quite a few people, including Margaret's parents, who met M*A*S*H-style in Vietnam.
This Saturday night, Pillowfighter will take the stage at Conor Byrne Pub on Ballard Avenue. Margaret's parents will be there and so will I. It will be like Raleigh all over again, only with shittier weather, better sound, and fewer dogs. Music starts at 9.
