A Different Kind Of Morning Music

Normally, I like to ease into my mornings. I'm an early riser by nature, mostly because the world is full of too much who-the-hell-asked-for-it noise and it's nice to get up before everyone starts making a racket.

So, I'm the type to listen to nothing but mellow shit from 7 a.m. to noon. I'm talking John Coltrane's Ballads, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's Master and Everyone, Duke Ellington's Money Jungle, Gonzales' Solo Piano, Nina Simone's live At Town Hall, etc.

But some days, man, you just need something to light a fire under ya, and for me, today is one of those days. I can think of no better to do so than...

Iggy and the Stooges: "Search and Destroy" (wrong cover pictured, by the way)

Then again, a guy I knew in college kicked off his day with this sucker...

Black Sabbath: "Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener"

Then, there's also something to be said for flipping through the local pop stations and hearing shit like this...

I knew these tunes were built for something more than the dance floor!
