Human Eye, the Girls, the Hacks, Backward Masks at Funhouse, 9:30 p.m., $7
Detroit psychedelic noise punk band Human Eye sound like ambient music started going to metal shows, got a few tattoos, developed a drug habit and generally started actually being interesting instead of droning on and on and on and putting us all to sleep. Plus, our own dance band the Girls return from tour for all your dancing pleasure. More spandex and sunglasses, please!
Emeralds, Heroine Sheiks, Black Tooth, Sex Vid, Comet Tavern, 8 p.m., $8
You may want to call in sick to work tomorrow for this one...Minneapolis' Heroine Sheiks (of Amphetamine Reptile Records) sing oddball songs about killing mammoths and other existential topics, all set to super-catchy riffs. Frontman Shannon Selberg is formerly of another Minneapolis punk band, The Cows, which may ring some bells for ya'll, but even if it doesn't, this band delivers some of the most theatrical insanity you'll encounter at a punk rock show. If you're not familiar with them, I suggest reading this very excellent interview.
Team Gina, Athens Boys Choir, Anaturals, DJ Mathematix, Chop Suey, 8 p.m., $8
The lovely ladies of Team Gina are ready to get your ass shaking, as they do often, but if you haven't seen them get down to the synthy '80s beats and rap about swapping wives and shit, well, you haven't really lived.
