Hard Rock Cafe In Grunge Capitol!

There is nothing I love more than the use of rock n' roll in the name of gentrification! In today's Seattle Times, it was announced that the Liberty Building on Pike St between 1st and 2nd avenues, will soon be home to a Hard Rock Cafe. Quoth building owner Jeff Schoenfeld: "That should bring some energy and vitality to that corridor". This stretch of urban bliss was once home to Liberty Jewelry & Loan, which closed in 2006 after the owner was charged with buying and selling stolen goods! These days, you can still find some stolen goods on that strip (I was offered some cool GNC-style energy pills from a teenager not long ago) as well as all manner of ne'er do wells hollering and stumbling and urinating about.

Naturally, the Hard Rock Cafe will center its memorabilia collection here on our city's rock legacy. You can picture the framed flannel shirts and already, right? How about a pic of that infamous bait-and-tackle shop in the lobby of the Edgewater Inn??
