I Heard This

What: David Bazan's "Cold Beer and Cigarettes"

When: Just now

Where: In the comfortable confines of my living room, thank-you very much.

I first heard former Pedro the Lion leader David Bazan while watching Fugazi's Brendan Canty and his crew film the Seattle installment of Canty's ongoing live performance series, Burn To Shine. I was never a big PTL fan, but Bazan's sparser solo stuff is really blowing my mind these days. He's a delightfully minimalist lyricist--something I always admire--but it's his delivery that really kills it. He'll be down at the Crocodile next Saturday, December 15th, along with J. Tillman and Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold. Here's a live clip of the song:

No official release date for Seattle's Burn to Shine, but I promise you it'll be worth the wait.
