Every Tuesday at the Hazlewood in Ballard, Melanie from Sonic Boom DJs a ridiculously uplifting mix of classic top 40 hits and guilty pleasures. A regular posse of SB employees and various music peeps show up. It's a damn good time, and I generally go every week.
Last night all sorts of nice kids were in the house: Jonah Bergman and Ryann Donnelly from Schoolyard Heroes, Sonic Boom owner Nabil Ayers, Cops/I'm A Gun guitarist Brandon Bay, and a handful of former Croc employees, including Pete Greenberg, Eli Anderson, and bartender Matt Harvey. While there was still plenty of stunned sadness about the Croc's demise, there was one piece of really great news: Greenberg and Chop Suey are throwing what they are calling an "Unscrew the Crocodile Employees Benefit" at the club on December 30. These are the confirmed acts so far:
"We want people to come down, hear some songs, share some stories, and say good-bye," said Greenberg. Very cool.
