Notes: I can't say for sure why exactly I first picked up Motel Lovers, a compilation of artists from the Deep South's so-called Chitlin' circuit. Perhaps living spitting distance from the seedy motels lining Aurora Ave. between 39th and 46th might have something to do with it. Or the fact that I've had a soft spot for really bad mid-tempo southern-style R&B artists from '80s who boast about their cheatin' sexual exploits in song, admitting their sinful, marriage-damaging ways. Who knows?
But I'm so glad I did. This album is the musical equivalent of bodily-fluid-stained sheets - filthy, smutty, and nasty. Most of songs on the the album are based around illicit night-time affairs in the motel, including Marvin Sease's title track song, "Motel Lover." No surprise: this the same dude who had an album called Candy Licker. Then there's Willie Clayton's orgy-rific "Three People," Big Cynthia's "Don't Rock The Boat" and "Long Dong Silver" by Denise LaSalle. Yeah, ladies also have to fill their sexual desires. If I was touring the Chitlin' Circuit, I'd make sure to wrap myself in a human-size condom - twice.
