While it doesn't hold the thrill of a Kanye v 50 cage match (was there ever even a question?? Kanye's got Will Oldham in his corner, suggestively riding farm equipment, no less. Enough said.), this week is still a hot one:
The Cave Singers! Invitation Songs
Finally, our own washboard rapping, foot stomping folkers, Cave Singers' long awaited debut sees the light. We've been jabbering at you about 'em for the better part of the year, but in case you weren't listening, head here, here or here.
Catch them next: Tonight! At Easy Street Queen Anne, 6 p.m. as a part of our SW local music showcases. Sadly, the boys will be missing Reverb fest as they hit the road with Canadian droner dudes and dudettes, Black Mountain (listen for BM's Amber Webber's vocals on Invitation Songs).
Devendra BanhartSmokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
The quirky hippie runs the gamut from singing in Spanish to turning out a Jewish love jam called "Shabop Shalom" on this 66 minute episode. Pitchfork didn't show it much love with a 6.5, but our own Brian Barr has nothing but good things to say about track four, "Sea Horse".
Catch him next: If you missed him at B-shoot, you'll have to wait awhile, but catch him on Conan tomorrow to get your TV land fix.
Iron & Wine The Shepherds Dog
I had a yoga teacher once who's background music of choice wasn't weird throaty chanting CD's, but rather, the feathery whisper of Sam Beam. Today, I'm sure she's Ohm-ing for joy, for now she can downward dog to The Shephards Dog (groan)- albiet less of a lo-fi approach from his homestyle recordings, but a beautiful, if polished, effort at that.
