3:45 After abandoning the Memorial stadium Gyro line, I was finally rewarded over by the Esurance stage with a shorter line and a much bigger Gyro (and a slice of Piecora’s pepperoni as a chaser) as the Saturday Knights kicked off their set with much fanfare, as always.
4:15 Lashes- first time back onstage since the accident that left guitarist Eric Howk partially paralyzed, but, as he proved today, still able to shred with the best of them. The boys pushed through technical difficulties by playing Scarborough Fair on the kazoo, fixing an amp with a chewing gum wrapper, and many more antics that will be detailed in a more extensive forthcoming post.
5:15 Starbucks VIP lounge appropriately right next to the Starbucks stage was over populated with highschool kids jumping the fence and cutting in line to get free Frapuccino’s which took about a half an hour to materialize even after an order was placed, much to Crocodile booker, Pete Greenberg’s chagrin who was rewarded for his patience with a pumpkin spice blended coffee beverage.
6:00 Portland’s Menomena was backed by a full-on choir dressed in Friar Tuck looking robes back on the Sound Transit Stage, proving, once again what skilled instrumentalists they are, executing much of Friend and Foe seamlessly, while performing on an somewhat mediocrely miced stage and being pummeled by giant blue and white striped beach balls. It takes something special to make playing a giant baritone sax look hot, but they’ve got the frontman to pull it off.
