I hate Panic! at the Disco. Having spent a good portion of time in Las Vegas, I despise the shared origins. I hate that they stole song titles from Chuck Palahniuk ("The Only DIfference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage"). I hate that they did a cover of "This Is Halloween" for last year's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D release. I hate Panic! at the Disco.
The Sin City circus-emo band is headlining the first night of Bumbershoot. That's the bad news. The good news is that you don't have to see them if you don't want to.
I offer these alternative to having a Panic! attack:
Grand Archives. This local group, newly signed to Sub Pop, plays at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Sky Church Stage. I haven't actually seen them, but the buzz is high and, really, anything is better than watching Brandon Urie being "sensitive."
Gogol Bordello. Panic! dresses funny because they think it's cool. The members of Gogol Bordello dress funny because that's their nature. This rag-tag band of gypsies are the real ting, compared to Panic!'s put on carny ride. I offer the following video of Gogol Bordello's "Not A Crime" as evidence.
