Factory Records creator Tony Wilson dies

He was the man behind 'Madchester'

Joy Division fans have another reason to wear black this weekend: Anthony Wilson, who founded the band's Factory Records, died after a battle with cancer this afternoon.

Many fans of bands the Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio, Joy Division, and New Order became familiar with him after the faux-documentary 24 Hour Party People, which traced the 'Madchester' scene he largely created.

Read up on the guy and check out some of his label's legacy. I would like to close with some of my favorite ever JD lines, from "Heart and Soul":

Existence, well what does it matter?

I exist on the best terms I can.

The past is now part of my future.

The present is well out of hand.

R.I.P.
