So much for that solo career -- Richard Ashcroft has announced on his website that his old band, British psych-soul/shoegaze-rock outfit the Verve, has reunited almost eight years after its (second) less-than-amicable disintegration. According to the singer's posted statement, "The Verve, Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury, were back recording together in a London studio last week. After a summer break, they will return to the studio to complete their next album."
The reformed Verve will also play six shows in the U.K. in November; no word if or when they'll come to the U.S....so what's your take? Happy to see them return, or is this yet another ho-hum reunion? Personally speaking, I had the good fortune of seeing the Verve a few times in New York City circa 1997/1998-- once at Irving Plaza and twice at the Hammerstein Ballroom -- and if they can still bring it live as terrifically as they did in their heyday (and crank out another great album), then I am thrilled that they're working together again.
