Collier (on left), with guitarist William Bernhard back in '97.
I happily cut my regular Rocket Queen column this week to make room for this oral history of Gerald Collier and the band that should have never left the stage. Yes, there are some other decent shows around town tonight, but you couldn't pay me to be anywhere other than the Tractor tonight (get your tickets over here). "One-time" reunions have a way of blooming into full-tilt reformations, but in this is case, simple geography and economics will prevent that: bassist/vocalist Jeff Wood lives in NYC now and no one involved can afford cross-continental rehearsals. Tonight is your one chance to see this extraordinary configuration of musicians on a Seattle stage (Portland gets their one shot tomorrow). The event that you are being held prisoner somewhere and can't make it, at least tune in to KEXP at noon today and listen to their in-studio performance and interview with Cheryl Waters.
