Alright, so Kaos Theory is the one drum & bass crew in town that keeps me sufficiently abreast of their events, so that I actually have time to write about amazing producers like Breakage, who'll be at the Last Supper Club on June 7. Whoever is in charge of SHY FX being at CLUB HEAVEN in Pioneer Square TONIGHT failed to send me a press release, and while it's still my fault for not checking the message boards sooner, damn!
Shy is one of the first well-known drum & bass producers from the genre's very beginnings in '90s England. He's made a mess of tough tunes like "Original Nuttah" and "Bambaata," as well as last year's glorious jump-up full-length, Diary of a Digital Soundboy. For more information, click here to download the pdf of XLR8R 95, which contains an overview of his best tracks and a big interview b/w him and myself.
The picture above was taken at Richard's on Richards in Vancouver last January- my friends and I braved the soul-shattering weather to see Shy and his MC, Skibadee, whose quick flow must be one of the new wonders of the world. Guy came out in a bulletproof vest and thick, gold rope chain, like the star he is in the UK. The energy of the crowd was unstoppable. If you aren't going to Broken Disco tonight, and you harbor any affection for drum & bass, dub, soul, or reggae, head to Pioneer Square. You won't be sorry!
