Love For the Locals

The new video from the Lights pretty much rules.

Please excuse this brief moment of collective self-congratulation, but judging by the volume of appreciative feedback we're getting from our readers these days, the Seattle music community is quite pleased that SW has put such a strong emphasis on coverage of local artists. Such a focus comes instinctively to the section's editor, Brian Barr, and to calendar editor Aja Pecknold (check out an exceptionally awesome edition of her Behind the Scene column over here), but hell, shouldn't that come naturally to any local alt-weekly?

Anyway, plan on seeing much more of that from us in the future—and to that end, check out the new video for "Setting Sun," by local band the Lights. I already loved this song, but director Lynn Shelton's crisp editing and surreal domestic imagery just adds to the experience. Enjoy:

Incidentally, local filmmaker Jennifer Maas was part of the crew on the video. You can read more about the production of Wheedle's Groove, her forthcoming documentary about Seattle's early soul and funk scene, in this week's edition of Rocket Queen. You can also check out a clip of the work-in-progress over here.
