Art Chantry, one of the cities most oft-touted grunge era artists (as art director he put his stamp on The Rocket, designed countless rock show posters and several Sub Pop releases carry his signature) is joining the ranks of other creative types lending their cred to commercialism.
While fellow poster artist Justin Hampton recently designed an entire car for Scion, Chantry has teamed up with Oakley, the sunglasses company, to lend his signature style to. I get the car- I mean even though it's one of those silly looking Scion at least it's big enough to showcase Hampton's work. But sunglasses? On these limited edition "Hijinx" specs (available June 1st), Chantry's work is screened only onto the ear stem portion of the frame. Not quite an optimum canvas for displaying someones work.
I wonder what collaborations we can look forward to next? Shepard Fairey contact lenses (thanks, Mark)? Dinosaur Jr. designed Nike dunks? Oh wait.
